We Built Insurance Right Into I'd Ship That's Platform. Here's Why.

We've had this one live since August, and we're ready to talk about it: Cabrella and I'd Ship That are officially partners.

If you haven't run into them, I'd Ship That is a shipping platform built for the sellers that a lot of traditional shipping software wasn't designed around - the eBay and Etsy sellers, the side hustlers, the small businesses shipping every week without a logistics department behind them. They get access to discounted USPS rates typically associated with much higher shipping volume, with no setup fees or minimums and a free way to get started, helping sellers keep shipping costs down as they grow. It's not just built for the smallest shippers, either. The Workbench, their bulk-processing tool, is designed for sellers who've grown past printing a handful of labels at a time and need a faster operational workflow.

Neither type of shipper should be unprotected when something goes wrong. Lost or damaged packages eat margins and damage brand reputation. Carrier-included coverage can be useful, but it doesn't always reflect the value of what a seller is shipping or provide the claims experience they need.

So we built insurance directly into I'd Ship That's platform: an API integration that lets their sellers optionally add all-risk coverage in the same flow they already use to print a label. The co-branded claims experience that comes with it — where a seller can file a claim, upload what's needed, and track where it stands without ever leaving the app — is part of a broader commitment at Cabrella to build features that make our clients' lives easier, not just write policies.

Our founder and CEO Ben Meskin put it simply when we were talking about why this one made sense: "I'd Ship That figured out how to give sellers access to competitive shipping rates without asking them to build a shipping department around it. We want coverage to work the same way — built into the platform, not something a seller has to go track down on their own. That's why this partnership made sense immediately."

For I’d Ship That founder Jared Ford and his team, the partnership goes beyond making coverage available to their sellers. They also get to see what's happening across their whole platform — where losses are clustering, how claims are actually resolving — instead of just a premium invoice at the end of the month. As Jared told us:"Cabrella gives us the technology to offer insurance directly within our shipping platform while providing our customers with a streamlined claims experience. Just as importantly, we have visibility into insurance and claims activity across our customer base, which helps us better understand and support our shippers."

This is part of a bigger pattern we're watching across the industry: shipping platforms are starting to treat insurance as something that belongs inside the product, not a form sellers have to go find somewhere else after the fact. That's the direction this whole segment is heading, and partnerships like this one are exactly how we want to keep building toward it.

We're sharing this the same week as PARCEL Forum (September 14–16, Orlando), where a lot of this exact conversation — what embedded insurance actually looks like on the technical and claims side — is happening on the show floor. If you run a shipping platform and you're curious what this could look like on your end, come find us there, or just reach out.
